There has been said a lot about this tobacco, mostly praised to the skies, it's all true. The smell of the tobacco was very moist and incredible, unlike any other brand save for a few English blends that I had experienced. (I still haven't cracked the tins I recieved from him.) It was a little dry so I had to add a little humidor to revive it. Perhaps all of the above. Perhaps a Sobranie cocktail cigarette once every few months. The 2011 Chicago Pipe Show's "Balkan Sobranie Throwdown" was a competition to see who could produce a blend that most perfectly emulated the revered Balkan mixture. The flavor on first light is latakia dominate. It is incredibly smooth and creamy, with a mild sweetness and a dry, salty smokiness that reminds me more of Syrian Latakia than Cyprian (I don't know for sure which one is present). Overall: A classic Balkan that I hope someone re-introduces again in its original form. It was totally different with other balkan or other latakia. Very nuanced, cool and even burning to the bottom of the bowl, but unless you just have to see for yourself or just have to have it for your collection, you probably shouldn't waste your time. Both reek marvelously, are roughly at the half-way mark as far as Latakia, and seem to have less Oriental than either the Pease mixture mentioned above, or the Cornell & Diehl mixture. Taste: Regarding taste the tobacco is a good mix of the pouch version and my 1981 tin version.
